Call for papers - Amplifying Marginalized Voices: conducting health services research by or with marginalized communities

I spotted this initiative in BMC Health Service Research: a call for research into health services and marginalized communities.

BMC Health Services Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on amplifying Marginalized Voices: conducting health services research by or with marginalized communities.

Marginalized communities often face systemic barriers in accessing quality healthcare, and often experience persistent health disparities. By marginalized communities, we mean racial and ethnic minorities, indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ individuals, rural and remote populations, immigrants and refugees, people with disabilities. This Collection aims to explore and amplify the voices of these communities in health services research, addressing their unique challenges and highlighting their innovative solutions to promote health equity.

This Collection invites submissions that investigate the barriers marginalized groups face in healthcare, innovative methodologies to address these challenges, and responses to promote equitable health services. Topics include but are not limited to:

• Barriers and enablers to healthcare access for marginalized populations
• The impact of social determinants of health on health service provision
• Community-based participatory health services research by or with underserved communities
• Strategies for inclusive healthcare policy, practice or resource flows
• The role of technology in improving healthcare access for marginalized groups
• Ethical considerations in conducting health services research with marginalized groups.

Submission Deadline: 15 August 2025

Many on this forum has done a lot of work on for example the harms of GET and BPS. I'm wondering if there might already be something that could fit into this call with some tweaking.

Many on this forum has done a lot of work on for example the harms of GET and BPS. I'm wondering if there might already be something that could fit into this call with some tweaking.

That last one on ethical considerations is the topic that calls out to me as most useful and fruitful in it really should be heard if done well (and flags points well hidden unless the community says out loud eg how we get coerced or long surveys affect us and so on)


Particularly knowing the declaration of Helsinki need and threads from a month or two ago?

Heck could we even add in a line that uses better language to not the issue of papers that are actually acting as Trojan horses to spread stigma and untruths about us eg in ‘personality’ suggestions

or in labelling whole illness areas as controversial knowing full well how that might act as a dog whistle

the reply to the ‘inflammation reductionism’ paper by Thomas … has slightly inspired me by making these points in what might be peer to peer language - like ‘just because 10% might be down to x, doesn’t mean you can suggest the approach should ignore the 90% cause’
