Crowdfunding: Trial By Error [David Tuller]: Reporting on ME, ME/CFS, long Covid, and "Medically Unexplained Symptoms", Oct 2022

How often do these come?

My memory is not reliable, but I think I got two of these expensive paper mail outs since the last funding round. Certainly the last one I got was in June, as it was when my goddaughter was thinking of accepting a job in LA but was due to move in with me while sorting her visa, etc, so the California post mark really stuck out for me.

Thank you for your excellent work, @dave30th. I can't imagine where we would be without your indispensable contribution. Although inflation and its impacts are felt everywhere, here it is not as bad as in some countries. So, I made a donation yesterday and will make another later. :)

Will be happily donating what i can. Your work is needed now more than ever.
Hope you're well & life treating you kindly @dave30th
You dont happen to know how i get Berkley to stop sending me appreciative mailouts do you? i always think its nice but such a waste of paper/resources
How often is this happening? I have asked for my donors to be removed from the general solicitation lists because almost all have no attachment or connection to Berkeley. You actually get paper letters??
Same here. Yes, paper letters. Like others it is just a waste for me to receive them.

Fairly sure i had one (letter) only a month or 2 back, and I'm also fairly sure that it wasn't the first this year.

Emails seem to come in flurries from chancellor yada yada, and from another berkeley related source as well (separate from this fundraising thing), I will however, now, start classifying them as junk.

First small donation just made, at least one more to come, maybe 2, depends on how things work out (it's only the 3rd so probably 2 more 'pay days' before the end of October).

Thanks all, I am sorry about the mail and e-mails. There just doesn't seem to be an easy way to stop it. I realize of course that these mailings and so on are a waste.
oh dont worry, they aren't a problem, not to me anyway, i only mentioned it with waste in mind, particularly for overseas postage. But if its an automatic thing then perhaps its not possible to change it.
I only thought that perhaps i had selected (or not de-selected) an option to 'receive acknowledgement' or whatever - like there sometimes are when you donate to things. But if its just an automated system behind the scenes then hey ho no worries

Trial By Error: Berkeley’s October Crowdfunding Campaign

4 October 2022 by David Tuller 1 Comment

By David Tuller, DrPH

As in previous years, October is crowdfunding month at the University of California, Berkeley, and I am once again seeking funds to continue my work on ME, ME/CFS, “medically unexplained symptoms,” and now long Covid. (Link here.) These tax-deductible donations to Berkeley will support my academic position as senior fellow in public health and journalism at the Center for Global Health from January through June of 2023. The Center uses the funds to cover my salary and benefits (mostly health insurance).

Thank you very much David for your tremendous body of work for our community! Really appreciate your expertise and assistance!

Donation done!

I too recieve the Berkeley mail-outs. I understand there is likely nothing you can do to stop them. They are not a problem for me, but like many other things there's the waste.

Cheers.
