Action Alert! Tell your Senators to VOTE NO on proposed 57% cut to Research Programs

The link above goes to an automated tool for contacting your US senators to ask them to vote NO.

Details:
Right now, Congress is in the process of deciding on a continuing resolution to fund government programs through the end of fiscal year 2025 (FY25). The House passed a version on Tuesday and now it goes to the Senate. This includes funding for a program that has provided millions of dollars of research funding for ME/CFS and Long Covid research.

Unfortunately, the proposed legislation cuts FY25 funding for the Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) from $1.509 billion to $650 million – a 57 % cut from the FY24 enacted level.

This is not a “clean” continuing resolution. Cuts of this magnitude – particularly as they come six months into the fiscal year – would significantly disrupt research into new therapeutics for diseases and disorders that impact the men and women in the Armed Services, as well as veterans, military families, and the general public.

Slashing this budget now will effectively shut down this program.

Each year, Solve specifically advocates for ME/CFS to continue to be included in the Department of Defense (DoD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

In 2024, this innovative, competitive program provided research funding to 42 congressionally selected diseases – including ME/CFS. Thanks to Solve’s ongoing advocacy efforts, ME/CFS has been included in the CDMRP program since FY2019.

Our community simply can’t afford to lose this funding. Tell your Senators to negotiate to fully fund the CDMRP and VOTE NO on proposed 57% cut to Research Programs!
