Update from Sarah Boothby on Savannah:

Visited for 3 minutes today. A NHS London hospital doing everything it can. The contrast with how it was before #MaeveInquest made me weep. Staff are protecting Savannah from visitors, without intruding on her autonomy. Very high bar. Strain could learn much from them. @ashleydaltonmp.bsky.social

Justice4me.uk good news out later today!Meanwhile, another shout out for the Queen Elizabeth NHS Hospital, Woolwich, where Savannah (formerly known as Gigi) is being treated as everyone with very severe ME should be. Outstanding adjustments being made, despite no #ME expertise anywhere in the NHS.

Before Maeve became too unwell to eat I was working up a research project with Dr Siobhan O’Dwyer which we recruited Dr Nina Muirhead to join. We wrote a rapid response to the BMJ's reporting on government’s Plan for ME. They asked us to rewrite it as a letter so www.bmj.com

Unpaid carers are the missing piece in treatment guidelines and research priorities for ME/CFS

O'Dwyer and I were promised funding from NIHR by Lyn Romeo in 2022, but O’Dwyer was overloaded with getting promoted to a new post in Birmingham and finally pulled out at the last minute in March this year.

I am now actively looking for another academic to lead on this.

Dr Keith Geraghty is interested but we really need a Professor, ideally in Public Health, too. NIHR is UK based, and the NHS so idiosyncratic it would have to be led from these islands. If you know anyone suitable, please put me in touch.
