"Without meaningful and immediate investments in biomedical research, the 28,000 people living with ME/CFS in Massachusetts will struggle to find answers to critical questions about the disease's cause, diagnosis, and treatment. Events like today's, bolstered by the advocacy and outreach performed by many in this room, have helped to bring this devastating condition out of the shadows and into the spotlight. We will keep our constituents with ME/CFS in mind as we push for expanded biomedical research opportunities and funding in the U.S. House and Senate."

"BOSTON AREA UNREST EVENT: SUCCESSES AND VIDEO

We are still riding high on the successes from our Regent Theatre (Boston area) Unrest event held on November 12th. We now want to share with you the event successes and the Youtube video link, which includes the event opening, panel discussion and audience Q&A.

First, the event successes!

- Packed house: This was the largest “community-organized” screening of Unrest held to date. An impressive 358 attended, many health care professionals from noted Boston healthcare facilities.

- Elected officials’ support: The joint statement of support from the entire Massachusetts Congressional Delegation, read aloud at the event, can serve as a role model for other states to follow. (See the youtube video for the joint statement.)

- 19 co-sponsoring organizations: Government, healthcare, academic, disability, ME/CFS, religious, arts, and women’s organizations co-sponsored our event. They included the MA Department of Public Health and the Division of Women’s Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We believe this was the most diversely-sponsored ME/CFS event ever held.

- WBUR (Boston's NPR station): A WBUR senior correspondent/host moderated our event panel. This added legitimacy and credibility to our efforts.

- Media attention: We were in a Boston Globe West column, the Arlington Advocate and Ms.magazine.com.

- Outreach: WBUR included our event in their newsletter sent to 72,000 people. Boston hospitals, med schools and a large pharma organization did the same, reaching well over 55,000 people via newsletter or website.

- Video of the event: The event opening, panel discussion and audience Q&A is now online to share with others. We will now try to get it aired on cable TV stations around New England and the whole U.S. YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48cCuJkFXzw&feature=youtu.be
