The little legislative impact is a red herring. It is a lack of understanding of the role of Parliament in holding the Government to account. It is not necessary to propose or amend legislation to do that."I have always had a policy of not signing EDMs as they have little legislative impact and cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of pounds each year and, in fact, as Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Councik, I am now unable to sign EDMs."
Andrea Leadsom
This sentence is a standard one used by other MPs in that party. It is misleading and each time my Mp uses it I explain that it is wrong, but like the Civil Service, MPs offices work with standard paragraphs so they can churn out a lot of replies on the same point.
