:emoji_bicyclist: Austrian Michael Strasser is riding his bike from Alaska to Patagonia as fast as possible. His goal is to cycle 23.000 km with 185.000 meters of altitude in less than 99 days to break an existing world record. The challenge is called Ice 2 Ice (because it's icy at the start and finish). Michael Strasser has two existing world records (he cycled through Russia and Africa).

He's collecting donations for ME (donations go to the Open Medicine Foundation) and ALS research. He has a paragraph about ME on his website and also posts about ME on social media.

His website is in German, English and Spanish. His team posts daily blog posts in three languages and there's live tracking available.

    Current status
    Time: 58 days
Compared to the current record: -10 days
    Complete: 69.3%
    Distance: 15.693 km
    Elevation gain: 118.710 m
    Donations: 20.358 Euro

I wrote a short article about the challenge (in German): https://www.mecfs.de/me-cfs-news-update-09-2018/#Ice2Ice
Automatically generated Google English translation here.

Emailed the team for my little article and they're really very nice. I mentioned Mike's marathons and they (of course) like the challenge and said they now follow @Mike Harley. :)

The hashtag on social media is: #ice2icebike

    Day 59

Already more than 20.000 Euro donations for ME and ALS research.

Edit to add: The original goal was 23.000 Euro = 1 Euro per km, but it looks like it will be more in the end.

I followed the link but couldn't find anything on the page to click on... then I realised that my browser was blocking it (do not track function). So now happy to announce: done.

Already 31781 Euro donations. :) Half of it goes to the Open Medicine Foundation (and the other half to ALS research).

Thanks for voting, the price would add a 5000 Euro donation.

Michael Strasser made the world record yesterday and was 15 days faster than the existing record. He collected 48401 Euro donations for ME and ALS research so far.

Awww, I would have loved to cycle from Alaska to Terra del Fuego. ;) These days my only prospect of cycling would be in the form of a 2 days CPET for research, but i would need to seriously think about it.

    Congratulations Michael Strasser!
