Dr Sarah Jarvis was on Vine BBC Radio 2 yesterday talking about Long Covid. Around 1.15 mins in. She said something surprising. Paraphrase.

This has many similarities to ME. Used to be referred to as CFS. We don't use that term any longer.

Would be good if she could have a word with a lot of her colleagues to let them know that.

For the record - this is the status of current SNOMED CT UK Edition terminology:

For NHS England, the mandatory terminology system for use at the point of care in primary and secondary care settings is the SNOMED CT UK Edition.

The "Fully Specified Name (FSN)" and "Preferred" term in the SNOMED CT UK Edition and the International Edition is

    52702003 Chronic fatigue syndrome

which (along with its list of Synonyms terms) is cross mapped in the SNOMED CT to ICD-10 mapping tables to ICD-10 G93.3.

There has been no proposal submitted via NHS Digital to replace the "Fully Specified Name (FSN)" and "Preferred" term in the SNOMED CT UK Edition from CFS to one of the other terms that are designated "Acceptable".

This is the National Health Service realm language reference set (clinical part) tab from the SNOMED CT UK Edition:

The new IAPT Data Set v2.0 which is scheduled for roll-out on September 01 is using this terminology:

"Chronic Fatigue Syndromes/ Myalgic encephalopathy (ME)"

The term "Myalgic encephalopathy" is exclusive to the UK Edition of SNOMED CT and does not appear in the International Edition or in any of the other national extensions.

The addition of the terms, "Myalgic encephalitis" and "Myalgic encephalopathy" to the UK Edition were requested, approved and implemented back in 2009.

    Here is the archived request:

NHS Digital Request Portal for SNOMED CT Request #138 (submitted 18/05/09):

    https://isd.hscic.gov.uk/rsp-snomed/user/guest/request/view.jsf?request_id=138

    ------------------------

Extract from Spreadsheet: IAPT v2.0 Terminology Mapping Guidance:

    https://digital.nhs.uk/binaries/con...apt_v2_terminology_mapping_guidance_v3.3.xlsx

    Version 3.3 (17 July 2020):

    Presenting Complaints tab:

Note that the IAPT v2.0 Data item column (column "D" on the far right) lists "Postviral fatigue syndrome" because "Postviral fatigue syndrome" is the G93.3 Concept Title in ICD-10 (sometimes referred to as the "target code").

For my latest update on the issue of IAPT's November 2019 request for the creation of a new SNOMED CT Concept code for the term "Somatic symptom disorder" to replace the existing Data Set v1.5 terminology, "MUS - not otherwise specified" (which IAPT currently maps to ICD-10 F45.9 Somatoform disorder, unspecified)
