Open letter to TEDxBristol regarding Esther Crawley's presentation on 2 November 2017

i don't get it. that is probably because i, as opposed to everybody else, don't get it. but /just in case/, i will ask.

@CarlyMayhew put effort into a letter to a specific franchisee. right?

captain obvious [that's me] asks: has this letter been sent to ted [without the x anywhere in the name]?

if no, is there /harm/ in doing so? i hear "won't work". i /don't/ hear "it will be bad to do so" or "ask jen first 'cause she knows those people best".

i'm probably missing something. so you can probably just ignore this.

sincerely,

captain obvious

I think it should be sent, but I've been too ill to be sure of doing it properly, and also too busy with family. I'll be traveling a lot in the next week, and may try to do it in the week following that, after I've had a chance to recuperate. I have no objection to anyone else forwarding the letter to TEDx or TED, or otherwise bringing it to their attention.

Has anyone saved a copy of the youtube video, just in case it is taken down?

I used to have an easy way of doing this, but it seems to have stopped working now.
I downloaded a copy. If you have the Firefox web browser, you can add the VideoDownloadHelper add-on and it will let you download YouTube videos. http://www.downloadhelper.net/
(I think it works with Chrome too, but not sure how well, I don't have Chrome)

  • Go to the video page,
  • add 'ss' after the www. in the address,
  • you will be taken to a site where you can choose how and where to save the video.
I haven't seen that method before, thanks! I can usually use Videodownloadhelper for all web videos but occasionally there's an odd one that it can't download without having to install a 'companion' app that I don't want to install, and then I use the Keepvid site instead. But Keepvid wants to display a bunch of ads (which I block), so your Save From Net site looks like a better idea.

I tried your ss method with Esther's video, and on the Save From Net site, the thumbnail they displayed showed Esther with a white circle over her mouth. It makes her look like she's frothing at the mouth, which seems rather apt...
