Specific documents on CFS and fibromyalgia from a US agency (Job Accommodation Network) (2008)

Many people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are too ill to work.

But there are some in some professions who may be able to with the right supports.

Nice to see some updated accommodations suggestions in the above since my time consulting the list in 1999 when I had to apply for disability (FM).

 

I find the JAN pages problematic as they refer to ME as cfs, the diagnostic criteria is still Fukuda, PEM is not thoroughly described and many of the links and resources are outdated.

both have the same info which has been updated to reflect the IOM (NAM) dx criteria, has some wording on PEM and among other things has updated resources and links.

At #MEAction’s recent meeting with ODEP we notified them that their informational resource on “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” was out of date and not aligned with the most current information CDC has issued on ME/CFS. #MEAction compiled a detailed list of recommended changes for ODEP, including justification and government sources.
ODEP took our recommendations and made extensive updates.
Some of the top changes:
1. Outdated CFS information has been replaced to match CDC’s current description of ME/CFS.
2. Language added clearly describing post-exertional malaise and recommending the importance of managing by pacing activity.
3. Expanded the number of potential workplace limitations needing accommodation for ME/CFS that workers and employers can find information on.
4. Links added to trusted organizations and high-quality ME/CFS resources added, including #StopRestPace Pacing Guide
#MEAction will continue to advocate for the millions who are missing from meaningful careers and productive work because of the debilitating symptoms of ME/CFS, Long COVID and other complex, chronic conditions.
