Belle and Sebastian lead singer Stuart Murdoch has called on people with ME to make a noise about the condition.

The founder of the Brit Award-winning Scottish indie band is one of at least 20,000 Scots living with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).

He is leading the campaign for better research into the disease, often known as chronic fatigue syndrome.

A rally in Edinburgh called for more action to tackle the devastating impact of the little-understood condition.

I think saying it's an article about how having ME affected his mental health is misleading. It sounds to me from the interview as if he has and always did have excellent mental health. What he talks about more is the affects of being ill on his view of himself, his place in the world, the constraints having a physical illness places on what he is able to do, and what he values and what he does to keep himself feeling good about himself and his life.

I love him! He seems like a really good person. I can really identify with the way he talks about Buddhism. Also, love his playlist... that Nina Simone song!

My fav bit:

What advice do you offer to friends when they are feeling overwhelmed?

Sometimes when people are truly overwhelmed, I’m likely to tell them anything they want to hear. It’s not the best time to challenge them with Buddhist wisdom.

When I come back from my class and my wife has just put the kids to bed and is knackered on the sofa and I try to tell her something I learned that night, she often says

“Don’t give me the Bhudda..”

I usually go get her a beer instead.

Has he chronic Fatigue or M.E....wish syndrome could at least be added to chronic Fatigue.....as we all know chronic Fatigue is not M.E. I'm not sure about this being a super idea.

I still don't understand, I'm afraid. Could you please guide me to where he calls ME chronic fatigue?
Oh, it's in the video! Sorry, I didn't catch it first time I saw it. As I understood it he talks about chronic fatigue as a symptom, and ME as the name of the disease, so no referral to the disease as chronic fatigue. :)

Edit to add: And on wikipedia it says he came down with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.

Ugh.

Don't know this guy from Adam, can't be bothered to google his name, but I take it he's some sort of celebrity as he was on CNN and mentioned his 'band'.

He started the first video apologizing for not being clear on his CNN interview.

Being a celebrity and an OMF Ambassador, he has the potential to have a big impact. Based on those 2 videos, I'm not sure if he'll have a positive impact. And I wonder what the CNN interview will be like if he's already pre-apologizing. Gulp.

OMF needs to have him work with a communications consultant to get his messaging and language on point. And no more interviews or videos until.
