Thunderclap on Thursday re TEDX Bristol

If you are on Twitter you can use the hashtags #tedXbristol #daretodisrupt on Thursday. EC's talk begins at 12.40pm

You can write Tweets in advance using apps like Buffer specifying a particular time.
 
When the TEDX talk by Esther Crawley was announced on Twitter, Jen Brea suggested to ignore. I thought would be good to be v active at the time of the talk, but with a strong, accurate & positive message re science. Jen suggested the messages include #TedxBristol so there are lots of good, strong messages on that thread to counterbalance narrative about MECFS and aggressively hostile patient groups. So I think the thunderclap idea may have come from or from a similar thought process to that suggestion.
 
BTW probably my incompetence as is first thread I’ve started, but wonder why it’s not showing in new posts/threads? Something about the location?

Every time there is a reply, the thread will reappear as there has been a new post. :)

sorry, autocorrect changed ‘not showing’ to ‘now showing’ - opposite meaning which I have now corrected.

Ie it doesn’t seem to show up in new thread zone ....

That’s well worth a tweet Thursday lunchtime, so can be RT. Suspect a few will be busy messaging on social media one way or another.

The only likely effect of inserting an ad for a specific research project is that it will make the objection to Crawley's talk look like it has no real basis. If anything, that sort of "campaign" will support Crawley's claims about irrational extremists attacking her because they hate her psychiatric explanations, instead of it being about educated patients and academics objecting to bad science.

I understand the need of some research teams to advertise for funding, but it's abhorrent to do that at the expense of undercutting real advocacy efforts.

I think I need to ask. What is a thunderclap - I've seen the term used a few times and always wondered.

Coordinated simultaneous posts on social media, typically incorporating at least one hashtag, in part as an attempt to appear in Trending Topics (or similar) lists, so as to bring more visibility to issues that might otherwise be drowned out by the mass postings about Celebrity-Love-Bake-Dancing-Talent Island.

I had this issue too! The idea is that lots of people sign up in advance, then all those tweets are sent at a particular time, to show significant support/communicate message in that moment & maybe also trend if enough people sign up. A kind of mass tweetathon to make a point. Hence timing to coincide w BristolTedX talk.
