The Future of European Research
19 July 2018 | Newcastle University
Wellcome’s recent report –
Building a Strong Future for European Science: Brexit and Beyond, set out our views on science in Europe post-Brexit. But this was just the start of the conversation.
We want to continue the discussion with those earlier in the career, and hear new and exciting ideas about the direction European research should take.
On the afternoon of Thursday 19 July Wellcome will be running an event at Newcastle University to explore these options. To have your voice heard, and attend the event, all you need to do is respond to the following question:
What's the one research problem you'd like European countries to fix and why? This could be solving a problem for society or improving the way research works.
We are looking for innovation and novelty. Responses can be in any format, including but not limited to: written, video, design. Responses are limited to one page, 500 words, or 3 minutes of recording.
Please submit your response to
europe@wellcome.ac.uk by midnight 17 June 2018
. Your place, and final details, will be confirmed the by the 25 June.
The call is open to PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and those in their first independent position, from any discipline or institution. You do not have to be funded by Wellcome to apply. Exceptional applications outside these criteria will also be considered.
Please share this call widely for all those who may be interested.
Our favourite three applicants will appear on a panel at the event to discuss their ideas with leading members of the science community. All those shortlisted will also be invited to a private dinner.
