    Proposed Letter to NICE

We had discussed it and finalized it elsewhere, but nobody is perfect, and on a forum like this, nothing is ever "finalized". I value the input, the comments, the advice: it's what makes this forum zing. But equally, I have to decide when to stop. This is only going to be one of a large number...

    Proposed Letter to NICE

Thanks for all your suggestions, and I agree that they are valid points, but I have decided to stop tweaking and let the letter stand as it is. It's only the start of a conversation, so it doesn't need to be perfect. Otherwise I'll be tweaking all through Christmas, and that's not a pretty...

    Proposed Letter to NICE

That's a good idea, @Andy . In the meantime, is it possible to change the title of this thread to "Proposed letter to NICE"?

    Proposed Letter to NICE

I was going to propose deleting this thread once all the discussion had died down, then creating a new thread, possibly locked, with the updated letter. Either that or suggest that we remove most of our comments from this thread so that it is less confusing for outsiders to dip into. I'm not...

    Proposed Letter to NICE

That's an interesting advert, @ladycatlover , especially when it declares that specific conflicts of interest, whether financial or non-financial, personal, family or non-personal, may exclude an applicant. @Trish , I'm happy for it to be public - putting it here was a conscious decision. I...

    Proposed Letter to NICE

Thanks @Adam pwme . I suppose the mathematician in me wants it to be a solid, logical argument, in which case it isn't really a petition. The realist in me knows that more signatures carry more weight. But once we have sorted out the glitches (and we haven't finished the editing yet, so thanks...

    Proposed Letter to NICE

We genuinely do not know, which is why we passed the buck and left it with all of you to decide! I'm not claiming any credit for the quality of writing - that was John. I kicked it off as a topic, and did a first draft. I'd have been alright if it had been in rhyme, but prose gives me headaches.

    Proposed Letter to NICE

Ah, one of the first reasons for putting up a proposed letter is to wait for eagle-eyed @Keela Too to spot any repetitions. Another reason is so that if we say the same thing twice, @Keela Too will point it out. Thanks!

    Proposed Letter to NICE

We intend to send this letter to Sir Andrew Dillon (NICE) early in January. I don't know whether any of you would like to add your (real) names to it or not: although a clear and logical explanation should not need the added weight of extra names, I'm not convinced that many medical...

Open letter to TEDxBristol regarding Esther Crawley's presentation on 2 November 2017

@Indigophoton , I agree with you that some of her comments are worthwhile, but as a mathematician, I look at it from a probability perspective: if you put a bunch of monkeys in front of typewriters ....

Blog: David Tuller, "Trial By Error: My Questions for the Science Media Centre"

@Allele , judging from your recent poetry, I think you are the one to deliver this! And you probably have a better chance of singing it, too.

Advice please - how do I get through the video without throwing things at my screen. I'm only two minutes in!

This is the sort of announcement that would go well on a banner at the top of the home page.

OMF seeks volunteers for translations into Japanese and Polish

I seem to be able to translate anything into pure gibberish. It may not seem that useful, but on a bad day, most of us develop the ability to speak it.

Free 'Unrest' tickets for BFI (London) showings 4/5/6/8 Nov for medical professionals & scientists

In the event, a number of people weren't able to make it, so we were able to allocate tickets to the (retired) GP, but he is on a local panel looking at benefits in some overview way, and in the Q&A afterwards thought that, at last, the benefits folk were beginning to get a handle on the...
