Thanks for all your suggestions, and I agree that they are valid points, but I have decided to stop tweaking and let the letter stand as it is. It's only the start of a conversation, so it doesn't need to be perfect. Otherwise I'll be tweaking all through Christmas, and that's not a pretty...
