I've been thinking about subjective assessments, and have decided that they separate out into two camps (which overlap of course).
One asks intangible questions about how people feel, or how difficult they find something. These are always susceptible to pressure, particularly if the answers...
I wouldn't be surprised if many of the BPS crew are quite sincere folk, truly believing that their therapies help patients, and, quite frankly, not scientific enough to understand the criticisms. But equally, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that some of the more aggressive ones are simply...
I did write to Ian Sample, and commented that many "patients" were or even are still skilled professionals, and that I would be happy to help him understand the problems with the trial and with the Cochrane analysis. I even gave him a link to the first PACE video.
I have not yet had a reply...
Thanks, but just to repeat, I had LOTS of help. It was a real effort to focus in on the key parts, and to pare everything else away. That's something I really struggle with.
This is an estimation, so I have had to make a lot of basic assumptions.
I started with the money spent on HIV/AIDS by the NIH in 2017 – $3,000 million (https://report.nih.gov/categorical_spending.aspx). That comes to $250 million per month, or $58 million per week.
The NIH have been...
There are hundreds and hundreds of possible links I could have chosen, but have decided to limit this to a few.

It's tricky, Over. I am about to take George out for his evening amble. I can amble around for 45 minutes or so (at a fraction of my healthy pace), and with suitable breaks, can manage a little more. The key fact is that I can't overdo it. I have a clear limit. So it isn't the exercise that is...
I wonder how aware NICE are of the issues, such as Stanton's involvement in that particular case. As patients we tend to overestimate how much different people or bodies know, then find to our surprise just how little they really know.
Is it possible that they just used the declarations of...
Don't forget David Marks, editor of the Journal of Health Psychology, who not only published a journal just on PACE, but who has written articles himself criticizing it all.
Plus a number of people on this forum who are psychologists, but who feel the need (very understandably, but sadly) for...
Should I put out another video with George on my lap? My first one seems to have garnered more remarks about him and the old bloke whose lap he sat on than the actual walking race content.
It may be worth quoting somewhere the comments from the PACE data tribunal ruling – conclusions near the bottom, part (iv).
Remember that Queen Mary spent around £250,000 on legal advice, and that a major part of their argument was that we patient activists were not to be trusted with such...
It breaks my heart to know that Bob is not here to see this. He contributed so much to that. (@vickster )
This could be huge, especially for the NICE review. Thanks to @Esther12 , @dave30th , @Tom Kindlon and all you others who have been a driving force in this.
