Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

Article about Freud's profound dishonesty and the total lack of scientificity of his work. Nothing really new, but these quotes about his work on hysteria are nonetheless interesting to read. https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/freud-was-a-fraud-a-triumph-of-pseudoscience/ Edit: Freud's...

The Elephant on the Couch: Side-Effects of Psychotherapy (Berk & Parker, 2009)

I just came across blogposts and articles linked to this topic: A Synopsis of the Side Effects of Psychotherapy – What Should Clinicians Know? by Dr James Graham It overlaps with the elephant on the couch paper and adds a few interesting things. One interesting remark is that, contrary to a...

I suppose different tests need a different amount of blood to be run (not sure anyway). What volume of blood is collected from a donor? On average, how many tests can be done with one donor?

UK Biobank doing an Ask Me Anything thread this Thursday, pre-event thread.

I'd like to ask basic material questions. What are the conditions that allow the conservation of samples? How long can a sample be kept? How do you share the samples: do the researchers have to come to London or can you send samples and if yes how? And are there tests that can't be run on...

Selling Bad Therapy to Trauma Victims

I was a bit uncomfortable with some of his arguments, and you're completely right about his critics of RCTs in general. In fact it's not RCTs per se, but the way they are taylored for CBT to give results (lenght of treaments etc...), but in general, critics of CBT in psychiatry come from even...

Selling Bad Therapy to Trauma Victims

by Jonathan Shedler Ph.D. Some very interesting remarks about psychotherapy RCTs (many relevant to CFS trials). But I worry some people would agree with this, say evaluation is impossible (main argument of psychoanalysts in France for eg.) and take the opportunity to sell even worst...
