2024: Twitter campaign aimed at John Oliver and Jon Stewart

I saw that there's a planned Twitter campaign for May 31st to make posts to try to get John Oliver and/or Jon Stewart to cover ME/CFS on their shows. I would love to see John Oliver cover this - it seems like the perfect type of content for his show.

If this were to develop legs, then maybe someone could point John Oliver to George Monbiot's excellent recent article for background.

One suggestion on the light-hearted side would be for him to play something like Alice Ella's recent "ME Poppins" instagram. Show some of the stupid and gawdawful comments, but then interview her to show the reality of a bad day, or perhaps behind the scenes of what she needed to do in order to achieve the skit. This might be best segued with the before and after of Dianna Cowern, PhysicsGirl. "And while Alice's life is still significantly impacted, it can be much, much worse."

I can also imagine a John Oliver rant on the PACE trial: "That's right! They actually claimed patients could be both severely disabled and fully recovered... AT THE SAME TIME. And this was published in The Lancet. And it drove British medical thinking for 10 years, leaving many young patients severely disabled and absolutely not fully recovered."

Love those ideas, love that ME Poppins clip. And I can definitely hear John Oliver saying 'AT THE SAME TIME'.

I reckon Brian Hughes has something of a similar vibe - looking through his blogs, there is good material there.

I can't think of any memes yet, but I'll be sure to be liking, sharing and commenting for a couple hours at least. I'm also thinking on how to get family members that have twitter to respond to this. Really hope it creates a lot of buzz.

Obviously they would pick up stuff from social media to use in segments but I always wonder about trying to catch people’s attention using social media. Are people emailing them/ contacting the production companies as well? Dunno if any people with connections in journalism might be able to push this forward @dave30th might have suggestions @George Monbiot
