I have seen a suggestion that when the 1970's BPS model was created the US psychiatrists were in a "turf war" with social workers as to the right to provide psychotherapy independently without physician supervision. Apparently the social workers won. The discussion seemed to involve our old friends Imboden and Eisenberg.

Then President, Dr. John Imboden’s article was titled “Questions, Questions, and More Questions.” It asked, “What is really happening to American psychiatry today? Is it undergoing an identity crisis? Can psychotherapy be done by just anybody?” By the mid-1970's, social workers were pursuing the right to provide psychotherapy independently without physician supervision. Franklin Goldstein, J.D., became our lobbyist and Dr. Lex Smith chaired the legislative committee. Along with many committee members, they testified against legislation that would allow social workers to do psychotherapy without psychiatric supervision. The social workers persisted until gaining legislative victory.Maryland Psychiatric Society (recreationtherapy.com)

Yay, a little bit of rationality. A better outcome than I could have hoped. It almost has me wanting to join twitter just to like the tweets. :)

Great work by those including @Brian Hughes who challenged this BS. Amazing the proposers thought they didn’t have to bother following the rules. By the way who is that guy in the video?

If only BPS nonsense was met with this response everywhere. Hopefully it'll be a growing trend.

Do you feel the ground shifting? Very very small tremor, but it is shifting.

Not quite perfect but at least coming from a psychiatrist this is basically lèse-majesté against the BPS ideology and the totalitarian hold that belief in psychosomatic medicine has on the specialty:

I'm wondering who this man is? Is he a "big noise" in psychology or psychiatry?

I assumed it was Patrick Hill, the person who signed the write-up about the proposal. And it seems it is him:

As I have said many times before, the invention of health psychology as a profession focused on psychological treatments for people with chronic physical conditions seems to have been a huge mistake. No doubt a deliberate mistake. I can't think of anything they could usefully contribute

Has anyone captured the video and also the proposal, which has now been removed? And was there an official society explanation for what happened? The link now goes to nothing.

It's certainly a big part of it, from what I read:
