Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

What drives people to reject the truth? If you replace "truth" with "Michael Sharpe's belief system" it becomes easier to see where the problem is. He is convinced that his belief system is the absolute truth, and no amount of evidence is going to persuade him otherwise, because it's a belief system.

Can anyone assist my memory. Didn't Sharpe join in Wessely's refrain that sufferers from ME make poor researchers of the illness?

I was somewhat surprised to read in the Preface to the book Chronic Fatigue and its syndromes by Simon Wessely, Matthew Hotopf and Michael Sharpe that: "Matthew Hotopf's earliest exposure to the field was personal. As a medical student at Barts he suffered glandular fever and was enrolled into Peter White's study. This experience was an insight into the rigours of well conduced research."

Presumably Sharpe would deny that he is in denial...

The author of that piece talks about having ME here: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2008/may/06/healthandwellbeing.health2

He blogs about it here: https://www.thesociologicalreview.com/blog/towards-an-exhausted-sociology.html

He tweeted about PACE here:

In some ways I'm surprised not to see more from him on the debates around PACE, as the accusations of denialism do seem relevant to his studies.

However, after an entire year, this group walked an average of just 67 m farther than baseline, and around 30 m farther than Controls.

Just what UK Gov want - to be able to walk 67 metres further than baseline definitely takes you out of the possibility of obtaining the Mobility component of PIP.

You can’t stand, even with a special aid.

You can’t move more than 1 metre, even with a special aid.

I'm sure that anybody else, when confronted with the sight of a large blue cock, would stop whatever it was they were doing immediately, reflect upon any damage they might have caused, and resolve to do things differently in future. Only Michael Sharpe takes a picture for twitter and carries on as normal. What is it with these BPS people?

from the Wiki link:
"The cockerel is also a symbol for regeneration, awakening and strength and finally, the work refers, in an ironic way, to male-defined British society and thoughts about biological determinism.[5]"

aah that's why MS tweeted it.

love this headline from when it was 'erected':
"Boris Johnson unveils giant cock in Trafalgar Square"
