New Video ME/CFS Scandal Explainer

I’ve published the article.

'Jan 2013

Wessely, along with PACE authors Peter White and Trudie Chalder, attend a workshop hosted by the Science Media Centre to help them respond to the alleged “harassment” of ME/CFS researchers. Minutes from the meeting reveal that they classify freedom of information requests, complaints and even a House of Lords debate as harassment rather than legitimate scrutiny of their work [26].'

Sickening but not surprising.

This is very good. It's a really horrible and uncanny feeling reading a timeline that spans from a few years before I was born to the present and details a medical/political history unfolding which I was unaware of and which eventually caused my decline into a severely disabled state.

It's very well written and concise, and will be a useful resource. Thank you.

Thanks, VRT

I look forward to the day Wessely is no longer in power and those within the profession can speak more freely about his behind the scenes behaviour.

I do not expect the stories to be particularly flattering.
It’s not the attitude they want to sell these people or the ‘caring profession’ as having is it.

And yet is it that those of that type get in and they seek out more of the same or are others either blind to what they are recruiting in (hence the initial charm) or ‘happily blind’ and seeking it out.

I think this is why people like SW cling to power like limpets. It's because when they relinquish it, they can't keep a lid on the stories about their unethical and unpleasant behaviour.

I am reminded (for no possible reason related to the comment I'm replying to or what I've just said) of the ranty person who attempted to persuade Gil Leng to alter the NICE guidance at the zero hour.

Comment on the video from a retired NHS psychiatrist talking about an interaction with Wessely
Given Wessely's predictable behavior, he will likely try to bully him. I hope he shares that, too. I don't understand why so many people get themselves so openly intimidated in a context in which exposing it is basically a professional obligation. I'm sure a lot of people have stories like this, we knew of several already but only ever glimpses. There is a whole book to write about this alone, even ignoring the rest of this scandal.
