I've quoted the whole document/statement as I suspect that the file name will be changing at some point in the near future.

"Scientifically robust" seems like an oxymoron in this context.

I am more sanguine. I think the members of the committee will find themselves in the midst of scientifically robust policy development. Whether or not they engage is up to them but no wool pulling over eyes is going to occur. The list of members is not yet complete I think, but some frighteningly sensible people have been taken on. If I was intending to engage in fuzzy thinking I think I would think again.

That is heartening. If the environment really is going to be such, that anyone seeking to push bad science in whatever form, will be exposed for what they are amongst peers who will not tolerate it, then who knows - they just might learn something useful.

    Can I just clarify?
Bath made the statement about Dr Jo Daniels yesterday, but was this appointment announced earlier by Nice?
How many appointees have still to be announced? Last time I looked, it was three but I could be behind. Am unwell so more confused than usual.

ETA: I see Jo Daniels was listed as a member on page 3 of the list appended to post #1 of this thread. It has been confusing to have members’ names released in dribs and drabs- was there ever a purpose to this?

Thank you for this reassurance. However i have a feeling that the deckchairs are currently being nailed down.

There seems to be a subtle realignment underway, for which the treatment may well be CBT.

I hope that i am wrong.

I think you will discover you are wrong - fortunately.

I presume on the previous committee 10+ years ago, and in the NICE sub-groups assessing things in between, there were no people really in a position to argue forcefully against the serious flaws of these studies. That is not the case this time around. Also, I think the reputation of PACE and this research will continue to fall as the NICE committee meets over the next year or so.

I believe I'm right in saying that Jo Daniels' appointment was made and announced by NICE quite some time ago, this looks like Bath catching up with the news. I've lost track though on how many more are left to be appointed.

"We heard your concerns and *hard slap to the face with a trout* have 'listened' to them."

It's almost trolling at this point, responding with demands that go in one direction with exactly the wrong thing to do, like a waiter who returns the plate you sent back with the exact same thing, double portion.

I guess hubris isn't just part of the process, it is the process.

ME too.... but I've been left feeling deeply cynical about the whole process though. Their response to criticism of those appointed to the committee makes things look even bleaker to me.
