eta: obviously not a recommendation.

Psychosomatic or functional conditions are when people have symptoms that are not currently explainable by an organic disease. Major examples are fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). These conditions which can have very severe and debilitating symptoms have no known organic basis, i.e. at present we cannot find anything wrong with the tissues of the body that would explain the individuals having these symptoms. One of the current leading theories for these conditions is that the symptoms arise within the brain rather than from peripheral tissues. This is called the psychosomatic theory and due to its popularity the conditions are often called psychosomatic conditions. This theory is not proven and it will be interesting to see in the future whether it continues to be supported or whether it is dropped.

"Description
I make tutorial style videos. My areas of interest are maths, physics, philosophy, medical science and clinical medicine.

My videos are often unscripted and I apologise if this isn’t your cup of tea.
I far prefer making the unscripted ones to the scripted ones, although i realise they are less professional.

Do please point out any mistakes you notice in the comment sections.

Thank you for watching."

I don’t know if the other parts are linked elsewhere, but here they are

Part 1

Part 2

Have not looked at them yet but Elliot Nicholson does seem to have a lot of YouTube videos.

Not a recommendation.

I have listened to the first part on CFS/ME. He's clueless.

He says CFS/ME is profound muscle weakness all over the body caused by psychological problems, so is psychosomatic.
He says to be diagnosed the profound muscle weakness has to be so bad that you are wheelchair or bed bound.
And he recommends Unrest 3 times.

He does acknowledge that CFS/ME is not the same as TATT (tired all the time). For TATT rule out physical causes - cancer, diabetes, hypothyroid and anaemia. Then rule out depression - he claims depression can show as either low mood or tiredness.
That's it on CFS/ME, summed up in 6 minutes. No mention of other symptoms other than muscle weakness and tiredness, no mention of PEM. Useless.

Then he moves on to FM which I haven't watched.

It's part of a series of videos under the general heading Psychiatry.

a suggestion that he reads the new NICE guideline and a link to it might be a good start.

don't know if Youtube allows it but a link to BrokenBattery aka
@Adam pwme channel would also be good.

yes that was quite disturbing as it sets it up as an example of psychosomatic illness.
I watched part one; where he goes into detail about IBS and also MS, although I think he was citing MS as an example of non-psychosomatic illness but you can easily miss that as he goes into some detail (not sure of the accuracy of most of it).
scary to think that so many people will take what he says at face value.
