Mike's EU Marathons

Sadly Rome Marathon has been cancelled due to coronavirus.

They've kept my entry fee for next year so I need to decide whether I'm going to add another year to the challenge or end it all in Florence in November.

It's a real shame as I had meetings lined up with patients and the ME Association in Rome and there was talk of a very big donation.

I don't want to let them down by not running next year but it's a significant increase in cost and an extra 3 months of training to add on so it's a lot to consider.

Anyway, no.25 is now going to be Hamburg in Germany, unless it's called off of course for the same reasons.

Thanks for everything Mike. Sorry to hear this has got in the way. You certainly shouldn't feel like you'd be letting anyone down by not making this big change to your plans when you didn't think it was the best idea. All your work has been amazing, and is very gratefully appreciated.

Hi all

Not much been going on in my world with lots of races cancelled. But I made a rather impulsive trip to Bulgaria last weekend to run Sofia Marathon again.

It's the only marathon race I've done this year but delighted to report it's brought in £9K and taken me well over my original £26.2K target for Invest In ME. I'll be putting the target up soon to £42,195 to mirror the 42.195km in a marathon.

Hope you're all OK and keeping well clear of the Covid nastiness.

Happy New Year all, hope you're all doing OK through all the madness.

My races in Croatia, Italy and Germany are understandably postponed until the Autumn.

So to keep myself amused I'm doing a virtual run from Lands End to John O'Groats. It's 874 miles in total and I'm doing it over 9 months so it doesn't distract me too much from the marathons later in the year. Works out at about 120 miles per month which is do-able.

I've done 10 days so far and got 36 miles up the A30. I think I get a tshirt and a medal or something when I complete it but hopefully it'll bring in some fundraising for our cause. I'm posting each Sunday here on how its going if you want to follow:

Catch-up soon!

  • How do doctors and government officials perceive ME/CFS in Hungary?
I think most of them just don't. It is almost like it doesn't really exist. Most doctors have some very vague and not particularly accurate knowledge and even the bit more knowledgeable ones don't know enough and tend to give bad or inadequate medical advice. I have never heard of any medical professional here who knew about PEM and the importance of pacing.
Great interview, thanks @Mike Harley. I'm sure that the awareness you have raised around Europe is worth many times the considerable amount of funds that you have raised.

If any of your contacts from around Europe don't yet know Science for ME and perhaps might like to create or contribute to a regional news thread here on the forum, please do let them know about us.

Evening all.

Thanks to those of you have liked/share/messaged about my run in Hamburg.

Here's my race report: http://www.mikeseumarathons.eu/hamburg-germany-sept-2021.html

Focusing on #26/27 now which is Zagreb on Sunday 10th October. I'll be sharing 2 interviews with Croatian ME patients this week and hope to get to raise awareness for people with ME there through some media support.

Cheers

Mike

Had some really good media support so far thanks to Tea Pavkovic in Croatia.

Tea has been an amazing support in translating and helping me gather the interviews from ME patients there.

You can read about M.E in Croatia first-hand here:
