UK CMRC 2018 Conference held September 19 & 20 at Bristol

Are either/both of you going to this conference, @dave30th, @Jonathan Edwards?

Any thoughts on what looks interesting/rubbish on the programme?

I a going to EUROMENE this coming week but not CMRC.

The programme looks to me about the best selection of what is going on in the UK and a bit of elsewhere you could do. The ME Biobank people at LSHTM are getting plenty of space. Newcastle and the UK Biobank are presenting and Chris Ponting is doing a workshop. I have to say my rating of Parent dropped seriously on seeing the referee report he produced that was quoted on a thread recently. It seems he believes in BPS and is prepared to use it to elbow other ideas out. That should no longer be on the agenda.

The new USA researcher beginning with D doesn’t seem to be coming now. There isn’t a big American name

I obviously have my frustration at the GB establishment way which means i see It as cobbling together mainly the best of British, filling in with talks again about pharmacy, big data, funding etc which haven’t changed much year on year so far. I don’t know how energising/ inspirational it will be and Karl Morten is not speaking himself for his research which is a shame.

Noticeable is that only 10 (out of 22) presentations, judged by title alone, are looking at biological processes of ME (and that includes some Harrison and Pariante presentations which, as I've said, I'm dubious about).

While it does look much improved, it's obvious that not much progress was made in the last 5 years - hopefully Chris Ponting can be the catalyst to push hard down on the accelerator.
