Very Wealthy people’s charities — News, Advocacy Ideas etc.

Perhaps the sequencing of the post-covid ME/CFS samples coule be funded by the Schmidt Initiative for Long COVID (a billionaire ex-Google CEO’s intiative that claims to have a global focus)
Just wanted to highlight this post from the SequenceME thread from 2024 that was the catalyst for the Schmidt Initiative supporting Phase 1 of Sequence ME. It obviously still took a lot of hard work and persistence by AfME to secure the funding but this posted highlighted Schmidt as a possible funder initially.

Brockman’s wife.

“Her health journey has been intricate, as she has Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Learning about her autism was a gift to understand a large missing piece of herself, giving her greater self-empowerment to advocate for her needs, especially medically.”

I think there is a thread on here about how some people will declare all the ancillary diagnosis because they are afraid or ashamed to admit they have ME/CFS.

I can see lots of results about him donating to prop up support for AI but nothing on medical issues. He also doesn't seem to have a charity or other financial vehicle for donations, so other than the fact that he has far more money then he will ever need it doesn't look like he's particular good target to be honest.

I’m not very good at finding threads so if there’s a more suitable one feel free to move this post.

There’s a business called the meaningful chocolate company that partners with/raises a lot of money for various different charities. It might be worth contacting them and seeing if they would be willing to raise money for action for me/sequence me if anyone has enough energy.

Making a big chunk of difference — Meaningful Chocolate

(I don’t have any experience with fundraising/reaching out to people so if this is a stupid/bad idea feel free to say.)

The one they have for lupus is pretty cool.

Have you tried their chocolate? Is it good ?

Very happy to hear a donation was secured. :)
Thank you to AfME for the hard work and thank you to Andy as well for all the work you do for example acting as liason between S4ME and AfME/Ediburgh

Someone on the SolveME webinar today suggested Action for ME could reach out to Melinda Gates' charity called Pivotal. Looking into it, she has a page on her website about Women's Health and Well-Being. It focuses on reproductive, maternal, and menopausal care, but the part about women's health research looks like it could be very useful for us.
For too long, research has treated men’s bodies as the default and women’s bodies as an afterthought. When it comes to conditions that primarily affect women, or affect women differently than men, there’s still a lot we don’t know about how to diagnose and treat them. Cardiovascular disease, for example, is the leading cause of death for women globally, yet providers aren’t fully equipped to understand how it shows up differently in women compared to men.

As part of our efforts to accelerate breakthroughs in women’s health and well-being, Pivotal and Wellcome Leap committed a total of $100 million to research conditions impacting women’s lives, including cardiovascular health.

With Wellcome Leap’s proven model, which brings together groups of experts from different sectors and industries to pursue bold goals on ambitious timelines, we expect to see outcomes years—even decades—sooner than we would through other approaches.
