I think the posts earlier in this thread about the comments that this service made about the draft NICE ME/CFS guidelines in 2021 remain relevant. From looking at the video above, I don't think the views or attitudes of the Newcastle services have changed. Indeed, the approach seems to ignore (ME)/CFS as much as possible and just talk about and treat 'fatigue' in an extraordinarily patronising way.

I wish there was a way to protect children with ME/CFS from the ministrations of this service. Instead, it now seems that the service's 'expertise' is being shared with other BACME clinicians.

Ugh, yes, kids would be embarrassed to make something so bad as a school project. It's badly made, patronising and belittling of serious illness. I think it demonstrates what little value there is in the psychology/physio provision for kids with ME/CFS.

Caroline was asked to take a lead for CFS/ME in children and young people locally back in 2008 and was board member of the Northern CFS/ME network when this was operational. Currently she chairs a steering group for professionals managing young people with CFS/ME across the region and continues to strive to establish a dedicated service for CFS/ME with a view to delivering evidenced based therapies and close partnership working with educational leads.


GNCH will be one of the pilot sites for a research trial led by Dr Esther Crawley , Consultant Paediatrician in Bath and Bristol looking at Graded Exercise Therapy in young people with CFS/ME compared to activity management and recruitment is expected to commence shortly. Caroline is delighted that Jackie Young physiotherapist is leading on this trial and is looking forward to working closely with her over the years ahead.



Caroline is grateful for the support and advice she has received from Dr Esther Crawley and from her colleagues across the region in learning more about the management of CFS/ME in young people.

I thought Prof Crawley is retired.

[added - she is no longer listed either under the Bath clinic’s staff nor on the University of Bristol website. I have forgotten how to check when a webpage was last updated, but presumably the APCP page has not been updated.]
